The Historic Downtown Galveston Partnership honored downtown businesses and professionals during the 14 annual Downtown Renaissance Hall of Fame Awards Evening held January 29, at Fisherman’s Wharf Restaurant. The event included the induction of the 2008 Board of Directors of the Partnership. Officers include: Craig Brown, President; Joyce Calver, Vice-President; Adrienne Culpepper, Secretary; Jeff Modzelewski, Treasurer, and John Smith, Past President.
Craig Brown, 2008 president of the Historic Downtown Galveston Partnership, announced to more than 100 guests the overarching goals that will guide HDGP this year. Among them was a renewed focus on the Partnership’s members and ensuring that HDGP is responsive to all issues that affect downtown business.
Lesley Sommer, executive director, presided over the awards ceremony. He thanked everyone for their selfless dedication to the organization saying “The Partnership is successful because of all of you here tonight. It gives me great pleasure to be able to take the time to honor and thank those individuals that have truly gone above and beyond.” The five new inductees to the Downtown Renaissance Hall of Fame were Keith Bassett, Jan Coggeshall, Jeff Modzelewski, Kathy Modzelewski and Angela Brown.
Established in 1984, the Historic Downtown Galveston Partnership (HDGP) promotes, enhances and sustains the economic vitality, physical attractiveness and quality of life in historic downtown Galveston.

Downtown Beautification Award
In recognition of the conversion of an idle downtown property into an area that enhances the aesthetics of the neighborhood this year’s Downtown Beautification Award is presented to Star Drug Store.
Creative Storefront Award
In recognition of outstanding presentation of a business’s image through creative storefront utilization, this year’s Creative Storefront Award is presented to Tina’s.
HDGP Volunteer of the Year
In recognition of an individual whose unrelenting commitment to the goals of HDGP embodies the spirit and mission of the organization through his or her volunteer efforts, this year’s volunteer of the year is Jacquelyn Tarpy – Stanowski.
Downtown Promotion Awards
In recognition of efforts in promoting downtown and stimulating economic growth through public relations, creative marketing and special events the first Downtown Promotion Award is presented to Adrienne Culpepper.
In recognition of efforts in promoting downtown and stimulating economic growth through public relations, creative marketing and special events the second Downtown Promotion Award is presented to Joyce Calver.
Downtown Renaissance Hall of Fame
HDGP’s highest honor. Given to individuals, organizations and special events that have had an extraordinary impact on the revitalization of downtown.
